The Grade 1 speaking and listening standards expect children to take part in collaborative conversations with peers and adults. A worksheet cannot fully assess live conversation, but it can teach the choices that make discussion work: listen to the speaker, stay on topic, ask a question, add evidence, and respond respectfully. This page gives short classroom situations and asks children to choose the strongest talk move. Support items use direct turn-taking language. Standard and challenge items ask students to compare a helpful response with one that is off-topic or unkind. The questions connect to reading, science, and writing discussions, just as the workbook does. Encourage children to rehearse the chosen response aloud after marking it so the written decision becomes a real speaking habit.
