About this worksheet

Goods are physical products people make, grow, or sell, while services are useful actions people perform for others. First graders may call every paid job a service or every store visit a good, even though a bakery can sell bread and also provide work that prepares it. This worksheet uses concrete community examples: books, food, clothing, haircuts, teaching, deliveries, repairs, and health care. Children classify an example, match it with a worker, identify what a customer receives, and distinguish a product from the work surrounding it. Support items contrast clear objects with clear actions. Harder questions place both in one scenario and ask which part is the good or service. Watch for the grammar of the answer: if it can be held or taken home, it is usually a good; if someone does useful work, it is a service.

What your child will learn

  • Classify a product as a good
  • Classify useful work as a service
  • Match workers with what they provide
  • Separate a product from work in one scenario

Worked example

A loaf of bread is a good because it is a product. Baking the loaf for a customer is a service because it is work performed.

Common mistake

Naming the workplace instead of deciding whether the customer receives an object or useful work.

Helpful hint

Can it be held as a product, or is someone doing useful work?
