The Grade 1 workbook spirals phonics patterns across the year instead of teaching only one sound at a time. Children review short vowels, long vowels, vowel teams, r-controlled vowels, inflectional endings, and syllable patterns as they read increasingly flexible words. This worksheet gives a broad phonics review that asks children to identify the visible pattern, choose a word with the same sound, and connect a spelling team to the sound it represents. The goal is not to replace the more focused short-vowel or silent-e sheets already in the bank. It fills the broader RF.1.3 expectation that students know and apply grade-level phonics and word-analysis skills. Support versions use very common patterns such as ai and ee. Standard and challenge versions add r-controlled vowels and less obvious spellings while keeping each item decodable.
