About this worksheet
A timeline places events in time order so a reader can see what happened first, next, and last. First graders may confuse the order in which events are mentioned with the order in which they actually happened, especially when a question asks about before or after. This worksheet uses familiar processes such as getting ready for school, planting a seed, making a snack, and completing a class project. Each visual contains only the events needed for the question, arranged from left to right. Children identify endpoints, locate a middle event, choose what comes before or after, and reconstruct a short sequence. Support versions use three steps; challenge versions may use four. Watch whether your child reads every event before answering. A timeline is evidence: point to the start, trace forward one event at a time, and use the position rather than guessing from memory.
What your child will learn
Place events in chronological order
Identify first, middle, and last events
Use before and after from timeline evidence
Read a timeline from left to right
Worked example
Plant seed, see sprout, then see flower. The sprout belongs between planting and flowering.
Common mistake
Choosing the event mentioned first in the question instead of reading the timeline order.
Helpful hint
Start at the left edge and move one event at a time.
