Spaces make the separate words in a sentence visible. Beginning writers frequently know what they want to say but run every letter together because speech does not contain obvious silent gaps. The opposite problem also appears: a child may leave a space inside a word whenever the pencil pauses. This worksheet helps children see that a space belongs after a whole word, not after every sound or letter. They compare readable and joined versions, count the word groups created by spaces, locate a missing gap, and select a repaired sentence. Difficulty changes the number and length of the words while preserving the same print concept. Watch your child point under each word rather than count individual letters. When writing, a finger-width gap is a useful temporary tool, but the lasting goal is understanding where one word ends and the next begins. Read each corrected sentence aloud and slide a finger across it, pausing briefly at every space.
