Sentences do four different jobs. A statement tells something and ends with a period, a question asks something and ends with a question mark, a command tells someone to do something, and an exclamation shows strong feeling and ends with an exclamation mark. Knowing the four kinds helps children choose the right end mark and read with the right voice.
On this grade 1 worksheet each line is one sentence, and your child circles statement, question, command or exclamation. Every sheet has two of each kind, in a mixed order. Read each sentence out loud in a matching voice and ask what job it is doing.
