Questions parents ask

Is a homeschool ID card official?

No. It is a card your home school makes for itself, like a business card for your school. It is not a government ID, and on its own it does not prove you are homeschooling under your state’s law.

Where can I use a homeschool teacher ID?

Many bookstores, craft stores, museums, zoos and science centers give educator pricing, and some include homeschool parents. Field trips and library programs are easier with a card too. Each place sets its own rules, so ask before you go.

What should I bring with the card?

Bring your driver’s license or other photo ID. If your state has a homeschool notice, affidavit or letter of intent, bring a copy of that too, or a homeschool group membership card. Many museums ask for it. Look up your state.

Can I make student ID cards for my children?

Yes. Turn on student cards and add each child’s name and grade. Up to four cards fit on one page, so a teacher card and three student cards print together. More students print on a second page.

Is it free?

Yes. Designing the cards is free and needs no account. Printing needs a free PencilGo account, with no card details. If you already have a PencilGo account, your name and your children are filled in for you.

Do you keep my photo or details?

Your photo never leaves your device: it is not uploaded or saved anywhere. The other details stay in this browser so the form is ready next time, and you can clear them with one tap.

How do I print the card at the right size?

Print at Actual size or 100%, not Fit to page. The sheet has a 3-inch line you can measure, and each card should match a bank card (3.375 by 2.125 inches), so it fits badge sleeves and laminating pouches. To keep a copy, choose Save as PDF in the print window.
