About this worksheet

One boot, many boots. The ending that marks more than one is something a preschooler hears long before they use it reliably, and the way to build it is to say both forms out loud over a picture that makes the amount obvious. Each item shows a group of one familiar object. You say the naming word both ways, the child says it after you, and then the child points to the number that tells how many are really there. Answering with a number rather than a word is deliberate: numerals are symbols this age is already learning, and a printed word would only ask a pre-reader to read. The one-form is always on the page as a choice, even when the picture shows a group, because one against many is the whole contrast and it has to be visible. Support pages use one or two objects. Standard pages go up to five. The last level puts two groups side by side and asks which of them needs the many word. Every object here adds a plain s; leaves and fish come later.
