Grade 2 Math Worksheet

Find the sum.

Adding three-digit numbers is the same column method a child already uses for two-digit numbers, with one more place. Write the numbers with ones under ones, tens under tens and hundreds under hundreds, then add each column from the right. In this first sheet no column adds to ten or more, so nothing has to be carried, and the child can focus on lining up the digits.
For 342 + 253, 2 + 3 = 5 ones, 4 + 5 = 9 tens and 3 + 2 = 5 hundreds, which is 595. Some sums add a two-digit number to a three-digit number, such as 25 + 703, where lining up the places is the whole challenge. Ask your child to say the value of each column as they go.
Common Core standard: 2.NBT.B.7
For 342 + 253, add the ones: 2 + 3 = 5. Add the tens: 4 + 5 = 9. Add the hundreds: 3 + 2 = 5. The sum is 595.
