A divisibility rule is a quick test that tells you whether one number divides another without dividing. Each sheet teaches one rule, for 2, 5, 10, 3, 9 or 4, with an example at the top, and then gives twelve numbers; your child writes yes or no after each. Half the numbers are divisible and some of the others miss by only a little.
What your child will learn
Use a rule to test if a number is divisible
Find factors without dividing
Spot numbers that nearly fit a rule
Common Core standard: 4.OA.B.4
Worked example
123 is divisible by 3, because 1 + 2 + 3 = 6 and 6 is divisible by 3.
Common mistake
Checking only the last digit for 3 or 9, where the sum of the digits is what counts.
Helpful hint
Read the rule at the top of the sheet and apply it to the number, step by step.
