Kindergarten Math Worksheet

Circle the picture that comes next in the pattern.

A pattern is something that repeats, and finding the part that repeats is the first step of algebra. Children already know simple patterns from the days of the week, from songs and from the stripes on a shirt. On this page every item is a row of pictures that repeats, with the last picture missing, and the child circles the picture that comes next. The repeating part can be two pictures, such as apple, star, apple, star, or three pictures, such as apple, apple, star, or apple, star, star, or apple, star, flower.
Support sheets use the plainest two-picture patterns and the standard sheets mix in the three-picture ones. Ask your child to say the row aloud like a chant, because the ear often hears a pattern before the eye sees it. Then make your own with blocks, spoons and socks.
Common Core standard: K.MD.B.3
The row is apple, star, apple, star, apple, and then an empty box. The pattern is apple, star, so a star comes next.
