Word families make reading feel easy: once a child can read pig, they can read fig and dig by changing one letter. This worksheet moves on from the -a families to four more endings, -et, -ig, -op and -ug, each with a different short vowel. Every item shows a picture, the end of its word, such as ig or op, and a short line where the first letter goes. A bank of letters at the top lists the letters needed, and each one is used once or twice.
Say the picture's name slowly, listen for the first sound, then pick the letter that makes it. Every version uses a different set of six words from the four families. After the page, build more family words with letter magnets or cards, and read them aloud together: fig, pig, dig, big.
Common Core standard: RF.K.3.B
