About this worksheet

Scientists use tools to see, measure and hold things, and they wear safety gear to protect their eyes, hands and clothes. First graders meet the same things in class: a magnifying glass to look at a bug, a measuring cup and a beaker for water, goggles for the eyes, gloves for the hands and an apron for the clothes.

On this grade 1 worksheet each line is a short clue, such as Put these on to keep your eyes safe, and your child circles the picture of the tool it describes from three or four tools. Say the name of each tool out loud and think about what job it does. Ask your child which tools they would wear to paint.

What your child will learn

  • Name six science tools and safety items
  • Know what each tool is for
  • Know that goggles, gloves and an apron keep you safe
  • Match a clue to the right tool

NGSS standard: K-2-ETS1-1
