About this worksheet

A push moves something away from you and a pull moves it toward you. These two forces explain how almost everything we move gets moving, from a swing to a door. Pushes and pulls can make an object start moving, stop, speed up, slow down or change direction, and a bigger push or pull makes a bigger change.

On this grade 1 worksheet each line describes one thing someone does, and your child circles push or pull. Every sheet has four pushes and four pulls in a mixed order. Ask your child to open a door, then close it, and say which one was the push and which was the pull.

What your child will learn

  • Tell a push from a pull
  • Know that a push moves something away and a pull moves it closer
  • See how pushes and pulls change how things move
