An animal’s home is more than a place with a familiar name. It is a habitat that supplies food, water, space, and protection. Kindergarten children may match animals to places by remembering a storybook scene without explaining why the match works. The simple maps on this worksheet show water, forest, park, and hill features. Children choose the location that can meet a named animal’s needs and then select evidence for the match. Support questions use fish and birds with very strong clues. Challenge questions include frogs, rabbits, and bees, which require attention to wet ground, burrows, or flowers. The maps are models, not claims that an animal can live only in one setting. Many birds use parks as well as forests, for example. Focus on whether the chosen place provides the resource in the prompt. Ask your child to point from the animal name to the map feature and finish the sentence, ‘This home works because…’
