Preschool Science Worksheet

Circle the healthy food.

Young children are curious about food, and this page uses that to talk about what helps a body grow. Each box shows three pictures, and exactly one is a healthy food such as an apple, a carrot or a glass of milk. The others are treats, like a cookie, a cake or ice cream. The aim is not to make treats bad: it is to notice the difference between the foods we eat every day and the ones we eat sometimes.
Talk about why: fruit and vegetables give us vitamins, milk helps our bones, and treats are fun but do not help us grow. Ask your child to name her favorite healthy food, and look at the fruit bowl or the fridge together afterwards. There is no right answer about favorites; the circle is the start of the talk.
Head Start ELOF standard: P-HLTH, K-LS1-1
The box shows a cookie, a pear and a cake. A pear is a fruit and helps us grow, so circle the pear. Cookies and cake are treats.
Circling the picture the child likes best. Treats are fun, but the question is which one helps a body grow.
Ask: is it a fruit, a vegetable or milk?
