About this worksheet

A neighbourhood is the area around a home and the people, places, and routes found nearby. Kindergarten children often know individual landmarks without yet understanding how those places relate: a school may be past the park, a store may sit beside a road, and two homes can belong to the same neighbourhood without looking alike. This worksheet uses simple maps to connect familiar places with their purposes and relative positions. Support items ask about one nearby landmark or a direct community need. Standard items use one map direction. Challenge items trace a two-step route or compare which place is closer to a starting point. The maps include only the features needed by the question, with fixed coordinates and a clear key. Watch for children who treat neighbourhood as another word for house. The home is one part; the neighbourhood includes the surrounding shared places and paths.
