About this worksheet

People use many kinds of vehicles to get from one place to another, and each kind travels in its own place. A car, a bus, a truck and a train travel on land. A boat travels on water. A plane, a jet and a rocket travel through the air. Knowing where a vehicle goes helps a child understand how a community connects its homes, schools and shops, and how people far apart can visit each other.

On this page each question names one place, on land, on water or in the air, and the child circles the vehicle that goes there. The other pictures show vehicles that go somewhere else. Watch for vehicles on your next trip, and ask your child whether each one goes on land, on water or in the air.

What your child will learn

  • Name common vehicles
  • Tell if a vehicle goes on land, on water or in the air
  • Know that people use vehicles to travel
  • Sort vehicles by where they go

C3 Framework standard: D2.Geo.1.K-2

Worked example

The question says Circle the one that goes on water. The pictures are a car, a boat and a plane. A boat floats and travels on water, so circle the boat.

Common mistake
