About this worksheet

A beginning blend contains consonant sounds that sit next to each other while each can still be heard. Kindergartners often record only the louder sound, turning flag into fag or stop into sop. This worksheet teaches children to slow down at the beginning and give every sound its own letter box. Support practice uses familiar two-letter blends. Standard practice widens the blend bank, and challenge practice introduces a few three-consonant openings while keeping the same listening task. Items alternate between naming a blend, supplying its letters, and blending a complete word from separated sounds.
