Capital letters and end marks show where a sentence begins, what kind of sentence it is, and which words are names. First graders often remember one convention while missing another. A child may begin with a capital but leave a name lowercase, or add a period to every sentence even when the words ask a question. This worksheet separates those decisions and then brings them together in a final edited version. Children identify the capital beginning, repair a person’s name, choose punctuation from sentence meaning, and compare a draft with a complete correction. Support pages use short telling sentences and familiar names. Challenge pages include questions and excited commands, so the learner must read for meaning instead of choosing the same mark each time. Ask your child to use a three-step check: touch the first letter, circle any name, and read the sentence aloud to hear whether it tells, asks, or exclaims. That routine makes editing more dependable.
