Grade 5 Writing Worksheet

Write your answer on the lines.
Write a friendly letter to a grandparent about something you learned this week.

A friendly letter is writing to a person you know, and it has parts that always come in the same order: the date, a greeting, the body, and a closing with your name. This fifth grade sheet gives one letter to write and a labeled space for each part, so a child can see where the date goes and where the body begins.
The body is where the real writing happens: a few connected sentences that answer the task, with the words of a friend rather than a report. Because every version asks for a different letter, the sheet can be used again and again. A grown-up checks that all four parts are there and that the sentences make sense.
Common Core standard: W.5.4
Date: May 3. Greeting: Dear Grandma, Body: This week we learned... Closing: Love, Maya.
Leaving out the greeting or the closing, so the letter looks like a paragraph instead of a letter.
Write the four parts in order: date, greeting, body, closing with your name. Put a comma after the greeting and after the closing word.
