About this worksheet

A period is a small mark with an important job: it shows that a telling sentence is finished. Young writers often leave it out because their attention is on spelling and handwriting, or place it after a space as though it were a separate word. Some children add several dots for emphasis. This worksheet narrows the task to ordinary statements, so the child can practise selecting one period, putting it immediately after the final word, and checking a finished sentence. Questions and exclamations are not mixed into the earliest examples; challenge pages add a question mark as a meaningful distractor while the target remains the period used for a telling sentence. Watch whether your child reads all the way to the end before choosing. A practical editing routine is to touch the capital at the beginning, slide a finger through the words, and tap the period at the end. Repeating that sweep links the two visible boundaries of a complete sentence.
