Write one true fact you know about rain.
Informative writing starts with sharing something true about a topic. A kindergartner may confuse a fact with a preference, especially when both are expressed in a complete sentence. ‘Birds have feathers’ can be checked, while ‘Birds are the best animals’ tells what someone thinks. Children also drift from one topic to another because every new idea feels worth adding. This worksheet builds the early habits behind factual writing: identify a statement that can be checked, choose a detail about the named topic, select an opening that tells the reader what will be explained, and record one known fact. Support topics are familiar animals; challenge topics include simple nature observations. The task does not require research or advanced spelling. Ask the child how they know the statement is true and whether another person could observe or verify it. On the written response, accept drawing or adult transcription alongside the child’s words when handwriting would hide the knowledge being communicated.
