About this worksheet

Singular nouns name one person, place, animal, or thing. Plural nouns name more than one. First graders often understand the idea when they see objects, yet writing the word can still be tricky because many plural nouns add s while words ending in s, x, ch, or sh may add es. This worksheet keeps the focus on meaning before spelling patterns. Children read complete sentences and decide whether the sentence needs one noun or more than one. They also choose and write the noun form that makes the sentence make sense. Remind your child to look at clues such as one, a, two, many, and the number of objects named. Say the sentence aloud with each answer when a choice feels close. Hearing “two fox” and “two foxes” helps a child notice which form belongs.

What your child will learn

  • Tell one from more than one
  • Use s and es endings
  • Match noun forms to number clues
  • Read plural nouns in context
