About this worksheet

A noun is the name of a person, a place or a thing. Teacher, library and clock are all nouns, and so are words for animals such as dog and owl. Finding the noun in a sentence is the first step in learning how sentences work, because every sentence is about somebody or something. This worksheet gives ten short sentences, each with exactly one noun, and the child circles it from the words of the sentence.

The other words are verbs that tell what happened, describing words, and words that tell how, which are also easy to confuse with nouns. Ask your child to try the test question: can I put the word the in front of it? The dog, the library and the clock all work, but the barked and the loudly do not.

What your child will learn
