The first plural pattern children learn is also one they hear every day: one cat but two cats, one book but three books. The important idea is not simply attaching a letter. Children must connect the final s with a change in meaning from one to more than one. This worksheet stays with regular nouns that form a plural by adding s, avoiding spelling changes such as boxes or babies that belong in later study. Questions move between choosing a plural word, completing a short phrase, and deciding whether a word means one or more than one. Some children add s to every word they see, while others say the plural correctly but omit the final sound when writing. Ask your child to point to one imaginary object, then several, and say both forms slowly. Hearing the small final sound before choosing the answer makes the printed pattern easier to notice and remember.
