Subtraction starts as taking away, and a picture where some of the objects are crossed out shows exactly what that means. On this grade 1 worksheet each line shows a group of objects with some crossed out, and your child counts the ones that are left and writes the number on the line.
Support sheets use groups of 10 or fewer, standard sheets go up to 14, and challenge sheets go up to 18. Ask your child to count only the objects that are not crossed out, then check by counting the crossed-out ones and the left-over ones together to get back to the start.
