About this worksheet

Money is written two ways: in words, as a cashier might say it, and in numbers with a dollar sign and a decimal point. Second graders need to move between the two, and the decimal point is the tricky part. The dollars go before the point and the cents after it, and the cents always take two places, so eight dollars three cents is $8. 03 and not $8.

3. This worksheet gives ten amounts in words, and your child writes each one with a dollar sign. Amounts under one dollar use zero dollars, so zero dollars forty-eight cents is $0. 48. Say the dollars first and then the cents, and check that the number after the point has two digits. Try it with real coins and bills if you have them.
