By the end of second grade children should know their subtraction facts within 20 so well that they can answer without counting on their fingers. That fluency is what makes two-digit and three-digit subtraction manageable later, because every column of a longer problem is really one small fact. This sheet is only subtraction facts, each written the same way, such as 13 - 6, with a line for the answer.
The facts that cross ten, like 15 - 8, are the ones children find hardest, and they are well represented here. Encourage a strategy rather than counting back one at a time: take away to the ten first (15 - 5 = 10), then take away the rest (10 - 3 = 7). Or think of the matching addition fact: 8 + 7 = 15, so 15 - 8 = 7. Do a few together, then let your child finish the page alone.
Common Core standard: 2.OA.B.2
For 15 - 8, take away 5 to reach 10, then take away 3 more. 10 - 3 = 7, so 15 - 8 = 7.
Counting back one at a time and losing track, which gives an answer that is one or two off.
Make ten first, or think of the addition fact that goes with it.
