Rounding helps third graders estimate with numbers that are easier to use mentally. The skill is not simply chopping off digits; students must decide which benchmark a number is closest to. The hardest cases are halfway values and numbers where the tens and hundreds decisions differ. This worksheet rotates between rounding to the nearest ten, rounding to the nearest hundred, choosing the two benchmarks around a number, and explaining which digit controls the decision. Number-line visuals appear when they show the interval and hide no answer. Support versions use numbers far from the halfway point. Standard and challenge versions include closer calls. Encourage your child to name the two possible rounded numbers first, then decide which one is nearer. Each question names the rounding target so students attend to tens or hundreds on purpose.
