A factor of a number divides it exactly, with nothing left over: 1, 2, 3, 6, 9 and 18 are the factors of 18. Listing all the factors of a number is the first step toward simplifying fractions and finding common denominators. On this fifth grade sheet a child sees sixteen numbers, one at a time, and writes every factor of each in order from the smallest.
Each version has different numbers, some with two factors and some with many, and the answer key lists them all.
Common Core standard: 4.OA.B.4
The factors of 18 are 1, 2, 3, 6, 9 and 18, because 1 × 18, 2 × 9 and 3 × 6 all make 18.
Stopping early and forgetting the pairs, or leaving out 1 and the number itself.
Start with 1 and the number. Then try 2, 3, 4 and so on. Each factor you find has a partner.
