Grade 5 Math Worksheet

Find each sum.

Adding large numbers in columns means lining up the ones, tens, hundreds and so on, adding each column from the right and carrying when a column makes ten or more. On this fifth grade sheet a child adds twelve problems of three numbers, each with four to six digits, written one under another with a rule and an empty row for the answer.
The numbers are chosen so that carrying happens, because that is where mistakes come from. Each version has different numbers, and the answer key shows every sum.
Common Core standard: 4.NBT.B.4
4,386 + 2,947 + 1,205 = 8,538: the ones add to 18, so write 8 and carry 1.
Forgetting to carry, or lining the numbers up from the left instead of the ones place.
Start at the ones column and add up. Write a carry above the next column when a column is ten or more.
