Once children are comfortable adding to 5, they are ready to add within 10, where counting every object one by one starts to be slow. The facts that make 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 are the ones children will use for the rest of their schooling, so this is the page where they begin to turn counting into knowing. Every item is a short addition sentence, such as 4 + 3 = __, with a box to write the sum in, and twelve different sentences fit on a page.
Support sheets use sums of 6, 7 and 8. Standard sheets add sums up to 10 and a few easier sums as a warm-up, and challenge sheets stay with sums of 8, 9 and 10. Encourage your child to say the bigger number first and count on the smaller one on their fingers. Doubles such as 4 + 4 and pairs that make 10 are good ones to remember.
