About this worksheet
Community rules are expectations people use to share spaces safely and fairly. Second graders often know a rule by memory but cannot explain the problem it solves. They may also treat a rule as something only adults say, rather than a tool that helps classmates, neighbors, and visitors use the same place. This worksheet grounds each question in a concrete setting such as a crosswalk, library, park, classroom, bus, playground, cafeteria, or community garden. Students choose the rule that fits the place, explain its purpose, identify the shared problem, and predict a helpful result when people follow it. Support versions use school and park examples. Challenge versions ask for stronger cause-and-effect reasoning. Encourage your child to ask who shares the space and what could go wrong without the rule.
What your child will learn
Connect rules to familiar community places
Explain why rules support safety and fairness
Identify the shared problem a rule solves
Predict results of following a rule
Worked example
Waiting until the slide is clear is a playground rule because it prevents children from colliding.
Common mistake
Repeating a rule without explaining how it helps people share a place.
