About this worksheet

People in a community take two roles in the economy. A producer makes a good or does a service. A farmer who grows corn and a baker who bakes bread are producers of goods, because a good is a thing that can be touched. A barber who cuts hair and a nurse who cares for patients are producers of services, because a service is work done for someone else. A consumer is a person who buys and uses goods and services, such as a boy who buys a loaf of bread or a family that pays for a haircut.

Most people are both: they produce at work and consume at home. This worksheet gives eight sentences, and the child circles whether the person is a producer of a good, a producer of a service or a consumer. Ask your child to say what a parent produces and what the family consumes.
