Rules help people share spaces safely and fairly, whether the space is a home, classroom, hallway, library, or playground. Kindergarten children can often repeat a familiar rule but still need practice applying its purpose to a new situation. A direction such as walk in the hallway matters because it prevents collisions, while putting toys away keeps a path clear for everyone. Support questions use very familiar situations and three distinct choices. Challenge questions include less obvious settings or ask for the reason behind a rule, not merely the action.
