A conclusion should make a piece feel finished without simply copying the first sentence or adding a brand-new topic. Fourth graders often end with The end, a vague sentence, or an unrelated fact that sends the reader in a new direction. This worksheet focuses on the final sentence as a craft choice. Students choose conclusions for opinion, informative, and narrative pieces, identify why a conclusion works, and reject endings that are copied, weak, or off topic. A copied opener is often a sign that the writer has not truly closed the idea. Parents should check whether the ending points back to the main idea. A strong conclusion does not need to be long. It needs to remind the reader what mattered and leave the paragraph or story settled.
