About this worksheet

Pronouns are small words that take the place of nouns. They make sentences smoother because we do not have to repeat a name again and again. In first grade, children usually work with pronouns such as he, she, it, we, and they. The challenge is deciding who or what the pronoun stands for, especially when a sentence mentions more than one person or object. This worksheet gives children clear complete sentences with only the information they need. They will replace a noun with a pronoun, choose a pronoun that completes a sentence, and identify the noun a pronoun means. Encourage your child to read each sentence twice: first with the name, then with the pronoun. If both sentences still tell the same story, the pronoun is doing its job. This habit strengthens both grammar and careful reading.
