About this worksheet

I and me both mean the speaker, but they are used in different places. We use I for the person doing the action, as in I like cake, and we use me when the action is done to or for the speaker, as in Mom gave me a cake. First graders often mix them up when another person is in the sentence: Ben and me went to the park should be Ben and I.

On this grade 1 worksheet each line has a gap, and your child circles I or me. A good check is to take the other person away: I went to the park sounds right, so Ben and I went to the park is right.

What your child will learn

  • Use I for the one doing the action
  • Use me for the one the action is done to or for
