About this worksheet

Base ten blocks make place value visible: a long rod stands for a ten and a small cube stands for a one. A child who can look at four rods and seven cubes and say forty-seven has understood that a two-digit number is made of tens and ones. On this grade 1 worksheet each line shows a picture of rods and cubes, and your child counts them and writes the number on the line.

Support sheets use numbers up to 59, standard sheets go up to 99, and challenge sheets include numbers with no ones, such as 60, and with many ones, such as 38. Count the rods by tens first, then add the cubes one at a time.
