About this worksheet

A word problem tells a short story and asks a question, and the child has to decide that the story is about putting groups together. In first grade the stories are about getting more, putting two groups together and seeing more arrive, and the answer is found by adding. On this worksheet each problem is one or two sentences ending with a question, and your child writes the answer on the line.

Support sheets use totals to 10, standard sheets go to 15, and challenge sheets go to 20. Read each story out loud together and ask what is happening: are there more now, or are they together? Drawing a quick picture also helps.
