Grade 2 Math Worksheet

Write the time below each clock.

A quarter of an hour is 15 minutes, and clocks show it in a way children can learn to see. At quarter past, the long minute hand points straight right at the 3. At quarter to, it points straight left at the 9, and the time is the next hour minus 15 minutes, so a clock that shows the short hand almost at the 4 and the long hand at the 9 says 3:45.
This worksheet mixes times on the hour, quarter past, half past and quarter to, nine clocks in all, and your child writes each one with the hour, a colon and the minutes. Ask your child to find the long hand first and say 15, 30 or 45 minutes, then read the hour from the short hand, and to say the time aloud before writing.
Common Core standard: 2.MD.C.7
The long hand points to 3, so it is 15 minutes after the hour. The short hand is just past the 5. The time is 5:15.
Writing the number the long hand points to as the minutes: 3 instead of 15.
Long hand on 3 is 15, on 6 is 30, on 9 is 45.
