About this worksheet

Adding three numbers is a natural next step after adding two, and it teaches a useful idea: numbers can be added in any order. A child who spots that 6 + 4 makes ten can add the 5 afterwards and get 15 at once. This worksheet gives twenty problems with three single-digit numbers, all written on one line with a line for the sum.

Some have numbers that make ten, and some do not, so your child has to look before adding. Suggest circling or covering two numbers that go together, find their sum, and then add the third. Look for ten-makers, doubles and pairs that are easy for your child, and check the sum by adding in a different order.
