Grade 2 Math Worksheet

Write the missing number.

In a subtraction sentence any of the three numbers can be the one that is missing. When the difference is missing, the child subtracts. When the number taken away is missing, as in 87 - ____ = 36, the child asks how much was taken away, and finds it by subtracting 36 from 87. When the starting number is missing, as in ____ - 24 = 51, the child puts the 24 back by adding.
This worksheet has twelve sentences within 100 with no regrouping, four of each kind. Ask your child to say the sentence in words, then to check the answer by putting it in the blank and reading the whole sentence again. Missing-number sentences like these prepare children for the equations they will solve in later grades.
