Grade 3 Math Worksheet

Write the fraction that is shaded.

A fraction names equal parts of a whole. The bottom number tells how many equal parts the whole is cut into, and the top number tells how many of those parts are counted. On this worksheet your child looks at twelve shapes, bars and circles cut into equal parts with some parts shaded, and writes the fraction for each one.
Building Confidence uses halves up to sixths, On Level adds eighths, and Challenge Me uses eighths and tenths where the parts are small and easy to miscount. Ask your child to count all the parts first, then the shaded parts, and to say the fraction aloud: three out of four equal parts is three fourths.
Common Core standard: 3.NF.A.1
A bar cut into 4 equal parts with 3 shaded shows 3/4: 3 shaded parts out of 4 equal parts.
Writing the shaded parts over the unshaded parts instead of over all the equal parts.
Count all the equal parts for the bottom number, then the shaded parts for the top.
Writing the shaded parts over the unshaded parts instead of over all the equal parts.
Count all the equal parts for the bottom number, then the shaded parts for the top.
