Grade 5 Math Worksheet

Find each difference.

Subtracting decimals in a column works like subtracting whole numbers once the decimal points are lined up, with regrouping across the point when the digit on top is smaller. On this fifth grade sheet a child subtracts twelve pairs of decimals written one under the other, each with the same number of decimal places. Each version has different numbers, and the answer key shows every difference.
Common Core standard: 5.NBT.B.7
34.56 − 8.77 = 25.79: the hundredths need regrouping, so borrow from the tenths.
Subtracting the smaller digit from the larger in each column instead of regrouping.
Check by adding: the difference plus the lower number gives the top number.
