About this worksheet

Knowing the order of the numbers is what lets a child count on from any starting point, not only from one. A kindergartner who can say the numbers in a rush may still stall when asked what comes right after 14 or right before 9. This worksheet gives eight short strips of three number cards with one card left empty, and the child writes the missing number straight into it. Sometimes the empty card is at the end, sometimes at the start and sometimes in the middle, so the child has to look at the numbers that are there and think about the order rather than always counting forward.

Support sheets stay within 10, and standard and challenge sheets go up to 20. Say the numbers out loud from the left, pause at the empty card, and check by saying the whole strip once more.
