Kindergarten Math Worksheet

Write how many sides.

Counting the sides and corners of a flat shape is how children start to tell shapes apart by their parts. A triangle has three sides and three corners, a square and a rectangle have four, a pentagon has five and a hexagon has six. On this page every item shows one flat shape and a box, and the child counts and writes the number. A whole sheet asks about sides or about corners and never both, and the version decides which: odd versions count sides, even versions count corners, and the corners are marked with dots so the child can touch each one.
Count with a finger, starting at a mark of your own so you know where you began, and say the numbers aloud. The numbers are the same for sides and corners on straight-sided shapes, which makes a good thing to notice.
