Grade 1 Reading Worksheet

Say the picture's name. Circle the letter it ends with.

After the first sound, the last sound is the easiest one for a child to hear, and picking it out helps with spelling and with rhyming, because rhymes share their endings. On this grade 1 worksheet each box shows a picture, and your child says its name out loud, listens for the last sound and circles the letter that makes it from three choices.
The pictures are not labelled, so the child has to say the word. The wrong letters never sound like the right one. Say the word slowly and stretch the ending: catttt.
Common Core standard: RF.1.2.C
The picture is a cat. Say it slowly: caaat. The last sound is /t/, so circle t.
Circling the letter the word starts with, or the vowel in the middle.
Say the word slowly and listen for the very last sound.
