The Missing Flashlight
Owen's family went camping beside a quiet lake. As the sun went down, the campsite grew very dark. Owen reached into his bag for his flashlight. His flashlight was not in the bag anywhere. He remembered using it earlier to explore near the tents. Owen felt a little nervous about walking in the dark. His older cousin offered to help him look around. They walked slowly, checking near the picnic table first. Nothing was there except some leaves and pinecones. Then Owen remembered leaving it by the fire pit. They walked over and found it sitting on a log. Owen felt silly for forgetting where he had left it. His cousin laughed and said everyone forgets things sometimes. That night, they used the flashlight to spot fireflies. Owen counted twelve blinking lights near the tall grass. He decided to keep his flashlight clipped to his belt. That way, he would always know exactly where it was.
